Daewoong Pharmaceutical presents its research results on ‘treatments for fibrosis and autoimmune disease’ at ACR - Pre-clinical trials for PRS inhibitor on skin and lung tissues and ITK/BTK autoimmune disease treatment - Oversea phase 1 clinical trial scheduled for next year On Oct. 25, Daewoong Pharmaceutical (President Sengho Jeon) announced that its poster presentation on 2 new drug pipelines in ACR held in Chicago from Oct. 19 to 24. ACR is one of two most acclaimed colleges in the world, besides EULAR. Daewoong Pharmaceutical presented pre-clinical trial results of DWN12088 (treatment for fibrosis (PRS inhibitor)) on skin and lung tissues and DWP213388 (bispecific treatment for autoimmune disease). The presentation on DWN12088 comprised of its efficacy on cells and animals with scleroderma and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. DWN12088 was developed based on the involvement of PRS protein in creating collagen and fibrosis inducers. It selectively reduces activation of PRS protein (Prolyl-tRNA Synthetase) and vigorously inhibits fibrosis. Fibrosis hardens and thereby fails human skin and organs and may be life-threatening on certain body parts. There is not effective medicine for fibrosis, and one is in a dire need. Daewoong Pharmaceutical developed treatment for fibrosis first in class and focused on heart disease, which its pre-clinical trial result was presented in ACC. The result of pre-clinical trial on DWP213388 was first revealed as well. DWP213388 is Daewoong’s treatment for autoimmune diseases, currently under development. DWP213388 inhibits ITK and BTK, enzymes that decisively influence T-cells and B-cell development which produces autoantibodies, one of causes of the disease. It minimizes side effects as it selectively impedes both targets. At ACR, Daewoong announced that, when compared to other selective BTK inhibitors under development, DWP213388 displayed over 5 times the efficacy in 2 animal models and it protected bones. This is significant as the new medication may provide higher quality of life for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune diseases. An autoimmune disease is a disorder resulting from an irregular immune response to a normal body part and includes rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus and MS. Its causes are still unknown and safe and effective treatment is in a dire need. Junseok Park, the head of New Drug Research Center at Daewoong said, “This result attests valid efficacy to rheumatoid diseases. We will focus our R&D efforts to provide a range of treatment options for patients with these conditions.” DWN12088 and DWP213388 will be in phase 1 clinical trial next year. #   #   # [Photo 1] A Daewoong’s staff is providing results of PRS inhibitor DWN12088 to ACR guests.
