Daewoong Pharmaceutical released a research result of an autoimmune disease candidate substance, ‘DWP212525’ for the first time in American College of Rheumatology - Developed an autoimmune disease medicine that selectively controls disease-related cells and reduces side effects. - Plan to carry on a clinical test at the end of 2020 and focus on its own capability to develop first-in-class new global drugs. Daewoong Pharmaceutical (CEO: Sengho Jeon) released a research result on a next-generation autoimmune disease medicine, ‘DWP212525’ at the 2019 ACR/ARP Annual Meeting held in Atlanta, U.S in November 11th, 2019 (local time). Patients with autoimmune diseases are well known to have the excessively activated T-cell and B-cell involved in immune response in our body. Rheumatoid arthritis is the representative autoimmune disease, and occurs when immunocytes such as T-cell and B-cell that need to attack foreign substances, including viruses, actually attack the body itself. An autoimmune disease candidate substance of Daewoong Pharmaceutical, ‘DWP212525,’ is an oral medicine of mechanisms that selectively control JAK3(Janus Kinase 3) and TFK (TEC family kinase) that are targets involved in the activation of immunocytes (T-cell and B-cell). Generally, compared to the existing medicines only limited to impediment of T-cell or B-cell, ‘DWP212525’ is mainly characterized by targeting and impeding JAK3 and TFK at the same time as the world’s first innovative drug (first in class). DWP212525, which inhibited the activity of both target subjects in a cell experiment, showed improvement in PEMPHIGUS, a rare autoimmune skin disease, and inhibitory effect on disease-causing factors in experiments using mice. Furthermore, they found that it had a great effect on Rheumatoid arthritis with one-fifty lower doses compared to the existing medicines and protected bones from additionally getting damaged. Park Seong-soo who is the head of NABOTA Operations of Daewoong Pharmaceutical said, “We saw a lot of interests and expectations of global health care industrial parties into new mechanism researches through the presentation of this preclinical study on ‘DWP212525.’ We will initiatively develop new global drugs for a lot of patients with autoimmune diseases such as Phemphigus, Rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases for which we have no effective drugs yet and contribute to the enhancement of their life quality by carrying on a clinical test at the end of 2020.” Meanwhile, the world market of autoimmune disease medicines reached more than $48 billion as of 2014, and it is expected to increase by more than $56 billion to 2022. Generally, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and psoriasis have recently represented the market of autoimmune diseases and formed a market worth of $40 billion. # # # [Photo Daewoong Pharmaceutical (CEO: Sengho Jeon) explained a result of the research on a next-generation autoimmune disease medicine, ‘DWP212525’ at the 2019 ACR/ARP Annual Meeting held in Atlanta, U.S in November 11th, 2019 (local time).
