Daewoong Pharmaceuticals and AstraZeneca Korea jointly sell ‘Cresto’, treatment for hyperlipidemia Confirmed efficacy and safety of Cresto, cooperation and know-how for a new opportunity for the product On April 11, Daewoong Pharmaceuticals announced that it signed a strategic joint sales agreement with AstraZeneca Korea for ‘Cresto (Ingredient : Rosuvastatin)’ and began sales on 1 April. Through this agreement, Daewoong Pharmaceuticals is to introduce Cresto, with total sales of 800 billion won in 2015 (UBIST), and both companies are to cooperate based on the efficacy and safety of the product. Cresto is an acknowledged drug that improves blood lipid level by decreasing LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol. Of all statin medications, Cresto is the only one holding atherosclerosis delay indication, and it was proved that Cresto reduced atheroma volume through imaging. Also, Cresto is an original medicine that proved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and reasonably priced; it is beneficial for patients with chronic conditions who must take the drug for life. According to a study that evaluated lipid improvement with varying statin contents by Voyager, after the first administration, Cresto (5mg) reduced LDL-cholesterol by 38.8%, Atorvastatin (10mg) by 35.5%, and Simvastatin (20mg) by 33.0%. The outstanding efficacy and safety of Cresto have been proved through Galaxy, the collection of 24 long-term clinical trial programs with 65,000 volunteers across 55 countries including Korea. In Korea, 3 dosages, 5, 10 and 20mg have been approved. With ‘Olostar’ (Olmesartan + Rosuvastatin) developed by Daewoong and ‘Cresto’ by AstraZeneca Korea, Daewoong has strengthened its product line for hyperlipidemia. Jongwook Lee, vice-chairman of Daewoong Pharmaceuticals, said, “Through our know-how and cooperation, Cresto will have another opportunity in the circulatory and endocrine markets.” Liz Chatwin, president of AstraZeneca Korea, said, “Daewoong Pharmaceuticals is an expert and experience partner in the cardiovascular system. I am happy about this cooperation with Daewoong for Cresto after our long partnership since the co-promotion of Nexium in 2008. Approved in 2003, Cresto has largely contributed to the health of patients with hyperlipidemia, and we will make efforts for more patients to have that healthy opportunity with Cresto.”
