Daewoong Pharmaceutical presents the clinical results of ‘DWP16001’, the new drug for SGLT-2 diabetes, at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) - ‘DWP16001’ lowers blood glucose level more effectively than the existing drugs. - Expected to settle as the best-in-class among the SGLT-2 inhibitors. Daewoong Pharmaceutical (CEO Sengho Jeon) presented the posters representing the results of phase 1 clinical study on ‘DWP16001’, the new drug for diabetes, at the 2019 European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) held in Barcelona, Spain from the 16th to the 20th (local time). 'DWP16001' is the SGLT-2 inhibition drug for Type 2 diabetes patients and SGLT-2 inhibitors are designed to selectively inhibit SGLT-2, the transporter for re-absorption of glucose in the kidney, to discharge excess glucose through urination. The posters presented how DWP16001 effectively lowers blood glucose as proven by the phase 1 clinical study to attract attention.  The phase 1 clinical study proved that DWP16001 can effectively secrete urine glucose with only 1/100 of other drugs in the same series.  When administered for 15 days, the control group secreted 40g of urine glucose a day, while the group that took DWP16001 secreted over 50g. The phase 2 clinical test plan (IND) for ‘DWP16001’ was approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety last May and the phase 2 clinical test to assess efficacies and safety is being conducted at about 40 large-sized hospitals, including Seoul National University Hospital, as single therapy.  Among the new synthetic drug lines being developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical, DWP16001 is expected to achieve viable performance after ‘DWP14012,’ a gastroesophageal reflux disease, and its target release in Korea is 2023. “We were able to see how interested the global market is in the developed of ‘DWP 16001,’ the new-generation diabetes treatment, with the poster presentation,’ said CEO Sengho Jeon.  “We will do our best for R&D so it can be the best-in-class among the SGLT-2 inhibitors.” #   #   # [Daewoong Pharmaceutical Image] Daewoong Pharmaceutical presented the posters representing the results of phase 1 clinical study on ‘DWP16001’, the new drug for SGLT-2 diabetes, at the 2019 (EASD) held in Barcelona, Spain from the 16th to the 20th.
