Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s Olostar confirmed better effect than co-administration of individual drugs - Proved significant effect on decreasing LDL-C compared to co-administration of individual drugs - Confirmed better adherence and efficacy for lowering blood pressure - Published in the December issue of Cardiology Journal Daewoong Pharmaceutical (Daewoong) (CEO Sengho Jeon) announced on January 6 that a study on the effect of Olostar, a combination drug of olmesartan and rosuvastatin, on lowering blood pressure and improving dyslipidemia was published in the December issue of Cardiology Journal, a SCI journal. This study compares a group administered a fixed-dose combination (FDC) and a group co-administered individual drugs for adherence, blood pressure, and blood lipid levels. 154 patients who needed anti-hypertensive and lipid-lowering treatment were randomized to the Olostar group and the concurrent administration group of olmesartan and rosuvastatin and followed up for six months. The results showed that the Olostar group showed a higher level of adherence and improved both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In particular, the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) greatly decreased (-13mg/dL), which was statistically significant compared to the concurrent administration group (-4mg/dL). Vice President Changjae Lee at Daewoong said, “As Olostar’s higher levels of adherence and efficacy are published in one authoritative international journal after another, it is expected to provide scientific evidence to prescribe Olostar. With continuous R&D and Daewoong’s differentiated 4-phase verification marketing strategy, we will devote ourselves to improving the quality of life for patients with high blood pressure and dyslipidemia.” Olostar is a novel combination drug independently developed by Daewoong, which uses its patented platform technology of a controlled release two-layer tablet to optimize in vivo drug absorption. Another study published in the American Journal of Therapeutics last November also proved that the Olostar group had better adherence and a better effect on lowering blood pressure and improve lipid levels than a group co-administered angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and atorvastatin except for olmesartan. #  #  #
