Daewoong Pharmaceutical received domestic approval for its OLOSTAR, the new complex combining the Olmesatan and rosuvastatin for the first time worldwide - OLOSTAR to be launched in April nationwide, following the approval of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on January 29 Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd(President: Lee Jong-wook) received the approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety(MFDS) for its OLOSTAR, a new anti-hypertensive drug which was developed with its proprietary technology. OLOSTAR, slated for release in April this year, is the ARB+Statin complex developed independently by Daewoong Pharmaceutical and is the world's first drug consisting of Olmesatan of ARB series and Rosuvastatin of Statin series, capable of treating both hypertension and dyslipidemia. In addition, OLOSTAR incorporates the domestic and international patent-pending double-layered tablet technology. New complexes combine two or more drugs into a single tablet which increases convenience, and can be differentiated from many generic drugs flooding the market as the patent on new drugs expire. For those advantages, new complexes have emerged as major strategy in pharmaceutical industry. Increasingly, drugs are administered in combination targeted to the patients with hypertension and dyslipidemia which are often chronic. As a result, the market for complexes related to cardiology and vascular diseases has come to the spotlight. Daewoong Pharmaceutical has built a powerful lineup of complexes ranging from the hypertension drug I to III with the successful roll-out of Olmetec Plus, Sevikar in 2011, and Sevikar HCT in 2013, achieving in excess of KRW 100 billion in annual sales, since it launched Olmetec, the anti-hypertensive drug, in 2005. In addition, Daewoong Pharmaceutical is on track to strengthen its lineup of Olmetec(Olmesatan) series brand with the release of OLOSTAR, the complex consisting of ARB and Statin series, in time for the expiry of anti-hypertensive drug Olmetec in September late year and rosuvastatin in April this year.
