Daewoong Pharmaceutical obtains approval for phase 1 clinical trials of COVID-19 drug niclosamide for patients in the Philippines - Phase 1 clinical trials proceed for local COVID-19 patients... Drug administration to commence in September - Expanding and launching global development through clinical trials with approval obtained in the Philippines following the approval of niclosamide in India Daewoong Pharmaceutical (Daewoong) (CEO Sengho Jeon) is in full swing to develop the global treatment for COVID-19 through a series of overseas approvals for clinical trials of DWRX2003 (niclosamide). Daewoong obtained approval for phase 1 clinical trials of the COVID-19 drug DWRX2003 (niclosamide) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Philippines on the 4th. This is the second overseas approval of clinical trials for niclosamide following the previous phase 1 approval in India. The phase 1 clinical trials in the Philippines will begin in September for 40 patients with COVID-19. The focus will be on verifying early indicators of drug effectiveness, including safety, drug tolerance, and effectiveness of DWRX2003. The Philippines is one of the countries with the largest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia. Daewoong leveraged the ability of its local corporation in obtaining approval for development to reduce the review period for clinical trials from 4 to 2 months, thereby receiving an exceptionally rapid approval. After completing phase 1 clinical trials, phase 2 trials will be carried out, and once the results are obtained, the company will rapidly seek to obtain local emergency authorization, while, at the same time, applying for the approval for phase 3 clinical trials. DWRX2003 has a mechanism that suppresses viral growth by activating the self-propelled behavior of cells. The company has already conducted in vivo efficacy tests on animals to confirm the effects of reduced viral potency in nasal discharge and lung tissue after COVID-19 infection. CEO Sengho Jeon at Daewoong, said, “Daewoong is in full swing with overseas clinical trials of its products, such as niclosamide and camostat, that are currently under development as global drugs for treating COVID-19,” and “As the Philippines is one of the countries with the largest number of confirmed cases in Southeast Asia, we will add fresh fuel to the development for the suffering people of the Philippines, and furthermore, we will focus our capabilities to ensure that the drug becomes rapidly available in the surrounding countries in Southeast Asia once the development of DWRX2003 is complete. #  #  #
