PRESS RELEASE No. 15/KFCP-DIR/PR/V/26 Jakarta, May 29, 2026 – Through its subsidiary, namely PT Kalventis Sinergi Farma (Kalventis), PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) runs a health education event together with Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri. The event holds the theme of “Pentingnya Vaksin Dewasa dan Vaksin EV71 HFMD untuk Perlindungan Keluarga” (The Importance of Adult Vaccination and the EV71 HFMD Vaccine for Family Protection). This event makes up for a part of Kalventis’s commitment in improving people’s awareness on the importance of vaccination as a preventive step to protect all family members. “Through Kalventis, Kalbe is committed to make the nation healthy by providing the suggested vaccines based on Indonesia’s infectious diseases. We also try to improve people’s awareness and knowledge on the important role of vaccination for all age groups in protecting families, for children, adults, and seniors are continuously at risk of being exposed to various infectious diseases that could result in serious complications,” says the President Director of PT Kalventis Sinergi Farma, Vidi Agiorno. By completing family vaccination, Vidi continues, it is hoped that there would becocoon immunity in people. The aim is that people from our closest environment – those who are vulnerable to diseases but cannot be vaccinated due to age limitation or specific medical conditions – could also gain benefits from vaccination. Vaccination in adults is especially good in reducing the risk of someone becoming a carrier of an infectious disease – this risk is higher in individuals who are actively working and is highly mobile. In line with this commitment, the Chief Medical Officer of Mandaya Hospital Group, dr. Senta L. Kumurur, MM., emphasizes that not only does Mandaya focuses on curative services or patients’s recovery process, Mandaya also encourages preventive measures through education and the availability of comprehensive preventive healthcare services. “At Mandaya, not only do we support patients’s recovery or treatment process, we also encourage the improvement of effort that we take to prevent diseases. One of the ways that we do this is through the provision of complete vaccination services for various age groups, starting from children, adults, to seniors. This commitment is in line with the government-encouraged promotive and preventive programs, which highlight prevention as an important step to continuously maintain people’s health,” dr. Senta explains. Adult vaccination alone plays an important role in helping the spread of various dangerous infectious diseases. Adults who are actively working or traveling pose a higher risk of being exposed to or carry diseases such as influenza, hepatitis B, meningitis, and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) – which is a viral infection that could cause brain inflammation. The benefits of adult vaccination show that it would need to start being taken seriously as an important part of a regular health protection effort. Other than adult vaccintation, it is also important to highlight the HFMD (Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease) cases in children. The EV71 HFMD is a vaccine that is used to prevent the infection of Human Enterovirus 71 (EV71), which is one of the main causes of HFMD. According to surveillance data of the Ministry of Health until the 18th week of 2026, there have been more than 18,000 noted cases of suspects of HFMD in all over of Indonesia. Six provinces with the highest number of cases are West Java (3,981 cases), Banten (2,503 cases), Central Java (2,122 cases), DI Yogyakarta (1,219 cases), East Java (1,128 cases), and Riau (1,124 cases).[1] HFMD’s infection is commonly started with the symptoms of fever, sore throat, lethargy, and loss of appetite, which would then be followed by mouth ulcers and rashes and blisters on the hands, feet, and the areas surrounding the mouth. Despite this disease being able to infect people of all age groups, HFMD poses the highest risk for children under the age of 6. The high number of cases show the importance of increasing people’s awareness and improving preventive measures against HFMD. “HFMD is not merely a regular rash. An EV71-virus-induced HFMD could potentially result in serious complications that we should be vigilant against, such as severe dehydration, brain damage (encephalitis), heart issues, and breath failures. Then again, despite it being rare, the infection of this virus could also result in long-term symptoms, such as growth and developmental issues, motorically and cognitively speaking,” explains a Pediatrician of Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, dr. Handayani, M.Ked (Ped), Sp.A. This disease could develop serious complications that threaten a child’s life. Its spread is also rapid for the virus could spread through droplets, direct contact, and contaminated things. Even adults with no symptoms could carry the virus in a family. Therefore, preventive steps need to be taken optimally at an early stage, which is by giving the EV71 HFMD vaccination shot to children. “The HFMD vaccine could be given starting from when a child reaches the age of 6 months until before they hit the age of 6 years. It comes in two doses with a gap of one month since the first dose is given," dr. Handayani says. The EV71 HFMD vaccine has been approved by BPOM RI. During its clinical trial, when being compared to children who are not vaccinated, the efficacy of Indonesia’s EV71 HFMD vaccine reaches 94.6 percent for EV71-induced HFMD cases, and 100 percent in protecting children against severe complications and hospitalization..[2] “Other than educating people on the importance of family vaccination, Kalventis also supports the government’s efforts in reducing the number of HFMD cases in Indonesia. We do this by providing the EV71 HFMD vaccine. In line with Kalbe’s mission in expanding access to healthcare services, on February 5, 2026, the EV71 HFMD vaccine was approved for indication expansion by the BPOM (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan – the Indonesian FDA), which made it usable by children of the age range of 6-71 months. This is a step that we take in supporting for an optimum protection to make Indonesian families grow healthier and stronger,” Vidi Agiorno concludes. Together with Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, Kalventis tries to increase people’s awareness on the importance of vaccines through educational events. These events are held to give people a deeper understanding on the role of vaccination as a preventive step in protecting their families’s health. During the aforementioned event in this article, two specialists from Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri attended the event as speakers: dr. Visakha Revena Irawan, Sp.PD, AIFO-K, who explained the importance of vaccination for adults, and dr. Handayani, M.Ked (Ped), Sp.A, who explained the role that vaccination played in children, especially in relations to the prevention of HFMD through the EV71 HFMD vaccine.
