Daewoong Pharmaceutical acquires the sales rights for Vivotif, an orally injected typhoid fever vaccine. Daewoong Pharmaceutical (CEO Sengho Jeon) has announced that it has acquired the sales rights for TerahVax Korea’s Vivotif, an orally injected typhoid fever vaccine, and agreed on the assignment of local permit to launch the product during the first half of this year. ‘Vivotif Capsules’ is Korea’s first typhoid fever vaccine approved by the U.S. FDA and the European EMA and it is mainly composed of Live Salmonella Typhoid Ty21a Strain.  It is proven for effectiveness and safety sold over 150 million doses around the world and stays effective for 3 years.  It is orally injected and great for children and adults who are afraid of needles. “We will certainly contribute to preventing the contagious diseases from abroad by supplying quality vaccines to expand the market for over 30 million people traveling abroad each year,” remarked CEO Sengho Jeon of Daewoong Pharmaceutical. “We expect that Korea will raise awareness about vaccines for local travelers and encourage more people to receive vaccination before traveling through Daewoong Pharmaceutical,” said CEO Young Jin Jung of TerahVax Korea that has transferred the sales rights to Daewoong Pharmaceutical. Typhoid fever is a Group 1 legal communicable disease that is infected through contaminated water and food and an acute contagious disease with poor prognosis and impact on the digestive tract.  There has been an average of about 120 breakouts a year in Korea and the numbers doubled to 247 cases in 2018.  Among them, 100 cases occurred abroad, mostly among the travelers to Southeast Asia, including India, Laos, and the Philippines (source: Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).  The best way to protect these travelers is to give the vaccines before departure to strengthen the immune system. According to IQVIA, a pharmaceutical market survey firm, the market scale for typhoid fever vaccines in Korea was 0.3 billion KRW in 2018. #  #  # [Photo] Daewoong Pharmaceutical has acquired the sales rights for TerahVax Korea’s Vivotif, an orally injected typhoid fever vaccine, and agreed on the assignment of local permit to launch the product during the first half of this year.
