Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s ‘Nabota’ secured application to blepharospasm. - Secured application to glabellar lines, upper limb muscle spasticity after stroke, wrinkles around the eyes, and blepharospasm. - Proved non-inferiority in the improvement of blepharospasm compared to BOTOX in clinical test phase 3. - Will constantly expand application in the aesthetic and medical area. Daewoong Pharmaceutical (CEO Sengho Jeon) announced on the 24th that the KFDA added application to blepharospasm to the list of possible application of ‘Nabota Unit 100’ last 20th. With the addition of new application, Nabota is now approved for application to glabellar lines, upper limb muscle spasticity after stroke, wrinkles around the eyes, and blepharospasm. The approval was issued based on the results of phase 3 clinical test on 230 adults who have been diagnosed with essential blepharospasm. The clinical test adopted the double-blind test where one shot of Nabota or BOTOX was injected on the facial muscles with spasm to test the efficacies and safety every four weeks for a total of 12 weeks. The Scott classification method, which has classified the degree of facial spasm into five steps, was applied to survey the number of patients whose degree of facial spasm has improved by one or more steps compared to before. As a result, 96.15% of Nabota group and 96.12% of BOTOX group showed improvement in four weeks, proving Nabota’s non-inferiority compared to BOTOX. Also, the evaluation of blepharospasm-specific functionality and the overall improvement rated by the subjects of study also showed no clinically significant difference between the groups. “Nabota’s application to ‘blepharospasm’ has further solidified its position both in the aesthetic market and in the medical market,” said Director Seongsoo Park of Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s Nabota Division. “The world’s market for Botulinum Toxin has greater potentials in the medical field than the aesthetic field, so this addition is expected to further Nabota’s market potentials as a global brand.” Daewoong Pharmaceutical is currently conducting clinical tests to add application to square chin (benign masseteric hypertrophy) and will constantly expand application. # # # [Daewoong Pharmaceutical Image] The KFDA has added application to blepharospasm to the list of possible application of ‘Nabota Unit 100’ for Daewoong Pharmaceutical.
