Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited [TSE: 4502] (“Takeda”) and its partner, Zinfandel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (“Zinfandel”) today announced that the global Phase III TOMMORROW trial has been terminated.
Findings demonstrate that there is no association between the use of pioglitazone and the risk of bladder cancer, (hazard ratio [HR] 0.99 [95% CI: 0.75, 1.30]).
Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) today announced the completion of the post-marketing commitment and submissions of data from a 10-year epidemiology study to regulatory authorities including the United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) / Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for pioglitazone containing medicines, including ACTOS (pioglitazone HCl).
Albiglutide achieved the primary efficacy endpoint in these five studies, although a hierarchical analysis of noninferiority to pioglitazone was not met in one study, as noted below.
The post-hoc analyses showed patients treated with BYDUREON or metformin were more likely to achieve clinically relevant composite goals than patients treated with Actos or Januvia.

Treatment with exenatide once weekly also produced statistically significant differences in weight, with weight loss of 6.2 pounds at 26 weeks, compared with a loss of 1.9 pounds for sitagliptin, and a weight gain of 7.4 pounds for pioglitazone.
